Our Donors

Red Umbrella Fund depends on the generous support and contributions from others that enable us to do our work.

We deeply appreciate our many partners that are funders.

Red Umbrella Fund’s current funders include:

American Jewish World Service (AJWS)

American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is the leading Jewish organization working to fight poverty and pursue justice in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Through philanthropy and advocacy, American Jewish World Service responds to the most pressing issues of our time—from disasters, genocide and hunger, to the persecution of women and minorities worldwide.

AJWS is one of the founding members of Red Umbrella Fund’s International Steering Committee. AJWS has reported extensively on the importance of protecting the human rights of sex workers and is an active member of the Sex Work Donor Collaborative (SWDC). “To effectively stop abuse against sex workers, experts suggest that many changes must take place—from supporting sex workers to educate each other about their rights to reforming laws that have limited sex workers’ access to safe workplaces, economic opportunities and critical services such as health care.”

Dreilinden

Dreilinden supports people whos sexual orientation, gender identity and expression and sex characteristics do not conform with social norms as well as women and girls. Dreilinden shares their vision of a life free from gender-based discrimination and violence – a life that makes sense for them in their diverse social contexts by means of grants to existing organizations and project grants, as well as by social investments, and networking.

Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF)

Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) “is one of the leading independent AIDS organisations in the world. The Foundation’s mission is simple: to be a powerful force in the end to the AIDS epidemic. We are committed to no more discrimination. No more HIV infections. No more AIDS deaths. No matter who or where you are.” Learn more about what they fund on their website.

Equality Fund

Equality Fund robustly resources women’s rights organizations and feminist movements worldwide by partnering with organizations, coalitions, and networks focused on building power with women, girls, and trans people, especially in the Global South.

Foundation for a Just Society

Foundation for a Just Society (FJS) “advances the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQI people and promotes gender and racial justice by ensuring those most affected by injustice have the resources they need to cultivate the leadership and solutions that transform our world.” Learn more about what they fund on their website.

Mama Cash

Mama Cash is the host organisation for Red Umbrella Fund and in 2021 became the largest participatory grantmaker.

Mama Cash supports visionary women, girls and trans people who are fighting for their rights around the world. We do not only support them financially, but also share knowledge and networking opportunities. Mama Cash supports the development of regional women’s funds around the world. We also encourage other funders to support the feminist activism of women, girls and trans people, and we learn and share results. We collaborate with activists, allies and funders worldwide in special initiatives to fund feminist activism.”

Oak Foundation

Oak Foundation is “family led and reflects the vision and values of its founders. In all its work Oak pursues rights-based approaches, gender equality and partnership with the organisations we fund. We support civil society as a pillar of democracy and justice and nurture innovation and visionary leadership within it. We value diversity both within Oak and among our partners; we seek to be inclusive, flexible and engage with different points of view. We believe that the best grant-making reflects both careful due diligence and the willingness to take risks.”

Wellspring Philanthropic Fund

Wellspring Philanthropic Fund supports “the realization of human rights and social and economic justice for all people. Our work is rooted in respect for the dignity and worth of every human being and is informed by the following beliefs: Social institutions and structures should promote the full realization of human rights and human potential, and should be accountable to these ends. The rights of all people are advanced when the rights of the most marginalized and vulnerable peoples are protected. Social justice movements should employ means that are consistent with their ideals, and should give agency to the people whose interests they seek to advance. As responsible stewards, we must strive to maximize the impact of our charitable investments.”

We also want to thank Red Umbrella Fund’s previous donors:

We have also been lucky to receive generous donations, small and large, from various individuals and to be hosted by Mama Cash who allows us to carry out our work in a supportive environment.
