In the 10 years since our launch in 2012, Red Umbrella Fund has given 279 grants to 180 organisations in 68 countries. Every year we share our list of grants including the names of the grantee-partner organisations that request to be published on our website. Organisations that wish to stay anonymous do not have their name or country publicly available. Please contact us if you would like to contact any of our former-grantees or discuss their work.
In 2022 Red Umbrella Fund’s PAC awarded €1,300,000 – our first time giving more than a million in a single year – bringing total grants to €7,886,500!

Africa Sex Worker AllianceKenya international English This sex worker-led African regional network was created in 2009 and is based in Nairobi, Kenya. The Africa Sex Worker Alliance (ASWA) has sex worker-led organisations as members in 35 African countries. The network amplifies the voices of their sex worker members and advocates for the health and human rights of the diverse community of sex workers working and living in Africa. ASWA intends to use its grant to continue its advocacy in the region and continue to strengthen itself as a network. Learn more

AMMAR Asociación de Mujeres Meretrices de la República ArgentinaArgentina national Spanish AMMAR’s mission is to defend the human, social and labour rights of sex workers in Argentina. With a national reach of around 10,000 sex workers, the organisation is present in 14 provinces of the country through 18 branches in different locations all of which are run by sex workers. With this third grant from Red Umbrella Fund, the organisation aims to provide food, medication, legal services and to implement workshops and visibility activities during the women’s march and cover some of its core costs. Asociación Civil TS “Rosas Mujeres de Lucha”Peru national Spanish Selling sex is legal in Peru but only by following regulations – mandatory health checks, registration and working in a licensed brothel. Street walking is illegal. Most sex workers work illegally. In this context, Asociación Civil TS Rosas Mujeres de Lucha works to defend sex workers’ human rights and aims to use its first grant from Red Umbrella Fund to open a safer space for sex workers to meet without risking violence.

Asociacion de Mujeres Trabajadoras Sexuales: “Unidas en la Esperanza” (UNES)Paraguay national Spanish Asociacion de Mujeres Trabajadoras Sexuales: “Unidas en la Esperanza” (UNES) promotes public policies and practices that protect women sex workers and that improve their working and living conditions. UNES aims to eradicate all forms of discrimination, stigma, and violence against sex workers. The group carries out sensitisation campaigns in coordination with other sex worker groups in Latin America. UNES organises regular meetings with municipal authorities, health service providers, and local police to promote the wellbeing and rights of sex workers in Paraguay where sex work is not recognised as work.

Asociación Nacional de Mujeres Buscando Libertad (ASMUBULI)Colombia local, national Spanish ASMUBULI unites women sex workers in Colombia in their struggle against injustice, inequality and discrimination, and actively contributes to the building of a national sex worker union. The group defends and promotes sex workers? human rights and aims to create choices and tools that allow sex workers to achieve a better quality of life. ASMUBULI builds the capacity of sex workers in advocacy, governance, democracy, gender and human rights, and implements projects that improve sex workers? access to health, education, housing and legal services. The group strategically builds partnerships to conduct more effective advocacy at the national level. Parapli RouzMauritius local, national English Parapli Rouz builds sex workers? knowledge and skills on human rights and advocacy with the aim to have sex work recognised as work in Mauritius. Plataforma Latinoamericana de Personas que Ejercen Trabajo Sexual (PLAPERTS)Regional Network - Ecuador based local, national, international Spanish Sex work is criminalised in most Latin American countries and some countries implement restrictive legal systems. As a regional network, PLAPERTS unites sex worker-led organisations working with sex workers of all genders in 13 Latin American countries. Formed in Peru in 2013, the regional network is now based in Ecuador. The network is a space to share information and provides capacity building to its members as well as advocates for the fulfilment of sex workers? human rights. With this third grant from Red Umbrella Fund, the network will develop its monitoring and evaluation plan, organise virtual workshops, carry out advocacy activities and publications and cover some of its core costs. Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO
Right Side Human Rights Defender NGOArmenia national English Right Side is a community based, democratic, human rights defender NGO, founded in January 2016 by transgender sex worker activists in Armenia. It is the first and only NGO run by and for trans people and sex workers in Armenia and in the South Caucasus. The organisation’s members are representatives of the sex worker community, including trans, cis and LGBQI sex workers. With their second grant from Red Umbrella Fund, the organisation aims to organise workshops, roundtables, cover some of their core costs and provide small grants to sex worker groups in the country. Sex Workers Intersectional Peer Education (SWIPE)Italy national English SWIPE was born in October 2020 to fill the need for an association that could work on a national level, for all sex workers and that could act as a public face at a country level. SWIPE (Sex worker Intersectional Peer Education) is a sex workers and allies association, created to support Italian sex workers’ rights, promote an inclusive culture and fight stigma, whorephobia and whorearchy. With this first grant from Red Umbrella Fund, the organisation aims to organise workshops, a podcast, manage its website and social media platforms and continue strengthening its structures. Sex Workers’ Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN)
Sex Workers’ Rights Advocacy Network (SWAN)Regional Network - Hungary based local, national, international English Working in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, SWAN was initiated with a goal to unite sex workers’ projects across the region, which in 2006 were isolated, invisible and with little influence, into one regional platform which mobilises, strengthens and amplifies the voices of sex workers. SWAN currently unites 27 member organisations from 20 countries of Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. SWAN has been supported by Red Umbrella Fund since 2013 and aims with this grant to continue building the movement in the region, develop information and learning resources, organise Management Committee meetings and cover some of its core costs. Tikondane CBO
Tikondane CBOMalawi local, subnational English Selling sex is legal in Malawi. However, there is a law against “any common prostitute behaving in a disorderly or indecent manner in any public place” and vagrancy laws used against sex workers. In its work, Tikondane aims to support female sex workers by increasing access to quality healthcare, social and legal support, information and sustainable systems of livelihood. With this grant, Tikondane aims to organise sensitisation activities and develop information, education and communication materials for the community.

Women Against All forms of Discrimination (WAAD)Zimbabwe national English Formed in 2015, Women Against All forms of Discrimination (WAAD) is a national individual membership organisation. WAAD has provincial structures in all ten provinces of Zimbabwe. With this grant and amongst others, the organisation aims to continue its advocacy with national stakeholders, distribute sanitary pads and celebrate international women’s day and international sex workers’ day.
