DemandAT is an interdisciplinary project addressing the challenge of understanding demand for trafficking in human beings and analysing the policy and practical measures that can influence this demand. The project feeds into recent efforts of European countries to find ways to reduce demand for the products and services provided by trafficked persons within their own economies and societies as a means of tackling trafficking. The project investigates multiple forms of trafficking and forced labour to assess the impact and potential of demand-side measures to reduce trafficking. The DemandAT project brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts across seven European countries from 1 January 2014 to 30 June 2017.

Edge Fund is a grantmaking body with a difference: we support efforts to achieve social, economic and environmental justice, and to end imbalances of wealth and power. The Global Alliance Against Traffic in Women (GAATW) is an Alliance of  more than 80 non-governmental organisations from Africa, Asia, Europe, LAC and North America. “GAATW sees the phenomenon of human trafficking intrinsically embedded in the context of migration for the purpose of labour. GAATW therefore promotes and defends the human rights of all migrants and their families against the threat of an increasingly globalised labour market and calls for safety standards for migrant workers in the process of migration and in the formal and informal work sectors – garment and food processing, agriculture and farming, domestic work, sex work – where slavery-like conditions and practices exist.”

The International Trans Fund (ITF) is a participatory grantmaking fund made up of trans activists and donors. The ITF aims to increase the capacity of the trans movement to self-organize and advocate for trans people’s rights, self-determination, and wellbeing.

The Participatory Grantmakers Community is a global community of practice focused on sharing knowledge to improve participatory grantmaking and encourage its use within philanthropy. The Community developed a list of resources and best practices about how to shift power effectively, equitably and authentically accessible on their website.

Philathropy for Social Justice & Peace (PSJP) is hosted by Global Dialogue and run by a team of volunteers supported by a coordinator and consultants. Thei work in three strategic areas: 1) Reframing the narrative of a good society: We highlight and share new and alternative ideas and approaches to social change such as #ShiftThePower and ideas about what makes a good society, in particular #RethinkingPoverty and now #BuildBackBetter; 2) Strengthening the civic space in its vision for and role in building a good society: We produce research and facilitate debate about the role of philanthropy in creating a good society. We also facilitate learning spaces for development aid and philanthropy practitioners to better align their practice with people led agendas; and 3) Explore the role of markets in building a good society: We are gathering thought leaders to share knowledge, awareness and ideas on markets that work for the common good. Red Umbrella Fund (RUF) is the first and only global fund dedicated to supporting the rights of sex workers. It was established in 2012 to respond to the lack of funding available for sex workers’ rights organising. In line with its core values of autonomy and ownership, Red Umbrella Fund is a sex worker-led, participatory fund.
