Founded in 2001, HARC works with women sex workers, mainly in Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka. The group works to improve sex workers’ lives and health by conducting peer outreach and condom distribution, building sex workers’ knowledge on violence prevention and HIV/STIs, and by providing referrals to healthcare services. The group builds sex workers’ skills in leadership and human rights advocacy, develops partnerships with women’s rights and workers’ rights organisations, and works with allies in elected positions of power at the local and national level to lobby for changes in laws and policies that negatively impact on sex workers’ lives, and for the recognition of sex work as work.
