Sarita Colonia is an organisation founded in 2005 by and for cis and trans women sex workers operating in Iquitos, a remote city in the middle of the Amazon forest region of Peru. Due to its location, most of the group’s members are indigenous sex workers of the Bora, Yagua, Witoto, Tikuna and Kukama people. Sarita Colonia implements outreach support as well as workshops for sex workers in order to foster community empowerment, as well as talks, awareness trainings and advocacy campaigns targeted at local authorities and the general public to promote the human rights and sexual and reproductive rights of sex workers.
