In the 10 years since our launch in 2012, Red Umbrella Fund has given 279 grants to 180 organisations in 68 countries. Every year we share our list of grants including the names of the grantee-partner organisations that request to be published on our website. Organisations that wish to stay anonymous do not have their name or country publicly available. Please contact us if you would like to contact any of our former-grantees or discuss their work.
In 2022 Red Umbrella Fund’s PAC awarded €1,300,000 – our first time giving more than a million in a single year – bringing total grants to €7,886,500!

Community United for Safety and Protection (CUSP)United States Local, National English Based in Alaska, this group of sex workers, people who have experienced trafficking and allies works to promote the safety and protection of all people involved in the sex industry in the US. The members include people from diverse genders, ethnicities and backgrounds. CUSP provides a place of safety and protection for sex workers where they can find support and get information about their rights. The group challenges harmful trafficking laws and aims for decriminalisation of sex work through direct lobbying, media outreach and legal action. Learn more

International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE)
International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE)Regional Network - Belgium Based International English This sex worker-led network unites 170 organisations and individuals from 25 countries, increasing the visibility and influence of sex workers at the European level. ICRSE advocates against the criminalisation of sex work and conducts research and advocacy on rights violations against sex workers. The network is documenting the history of sex worker activism in Europe to mark the 10 year anniversary of the Declaration on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe in 2015. International Committee on the Rights of Sex Workers in Europe (ICRSE)Regional Network - Belgium Based International English This network of individuals and organisations in Europe and Central Asia campaigns against the criminalisation of sex work, and the conflation of sex work and human trafficking. It serves as a platform to share experiences and solidarity, and to create alliances between sex workers’ rights organisations and allies from other movements who support sex workers’ rights. The Red Umbrella Fund grant will enable the network to hire a coordinator to strengthen the network and develop strategies to influence the European Parliament. Legalife Ukraine
Legalife UkraineUkraine Local, National Russian Formerly known as Legalife Kirovograd Branch, this organisation mobilises sex workers and allies in different parts of the country with the aim to protect and promote sex workers’ health and human rights. Legalife Ukraine works to end gender-based violence, organises self-support groups of sex workers, and provides free legal support to sex workers through a free hotline (phone line). The group works to improve sex workers’ access to sexual and reproductive health services, including HIV prevention, testing and treatment services. Legalife works at local and national levels and is well connected internationally. Learn more

Mujeres Del Sur
Mujeres Del SurPeru Local Spanish This group, based in Arequipa, is led by sex workers who are women. Mujeres del Sur challenges police violence through awareness-raising among local communities and leaders, and works to combat police violence through strategic litigation. The organisation advocates for the recognition and protection of the labour rights of sex workers.

Right Side Human Rights Defender NGO
Right Side Human Rights Defender NGOArmenia national English Right Side is a community based, democratic, human rights defender NGO, founded in January 2016 by transgender sex worker activists in Armenia. It is the first and only NGO run by and for trans people and sex workers in Armenia and in the South Caucasus. The organisation’s members are representatives of the sex worker community, including trans, cis and LGBQI sex workers. With their second grant from Red Umbrella Fund, the organisation aims to organise workshops, roundtables, cover some of their core costs and provide small grants to sex worker groups in the country. Sramajibi Mahila Sangha (SMS)
Sramajibi Mahila Sangha (SMS)India Local, National English This group in West Bengal advocates for the rights of sex workers at local and national levels in India. SMS has been actively opposing a harmful new anti-trafficking bill. The group interacts with government departments to ensure access to social entitlements for sex workers and to secure their participation in advisory and decision-making bodies that address issues relevant to them and their families. The group runs 20 Self-Regulatory Boards, an effective community-led anti-trafficking mechanism that has been endorsed by the Supreme Court of India

Sramajibi Mahila Sangha (SMS)India local English This group in West Bengal advocates for the rights of sex workers at local and national levels in India. Sramajibi Mahila Sangha also received a grant from Red Umbrella Fund in 2018 and was very active in opposing a harmful new anti-trafficking bill. With this grant, the organisation aims to continue its advocacy and strengthen and expand its self-regulatory boards which play a crucial role in addressing trafficking in sex work.

SWOPLA’s vision is to usher in the reality where all sex workers? labor and body are valued and respected. Amongst other important work, SWOPLA maintains a resource list on its website and cultivates relationships with service providers to provide referrals useful to sex workers in the Los Angeles area of the United States of America.
